Cultural heart

Japan’s capital for over a thousand years. While Tokyo races forward, Kyoto preserves tradition. Over 2000 temples and shrines, countless gardens, and neighborhoods where geisha still train.

Jōjakkō-ji Temple is one of the more quiet temples in this area. You can climb up a couple of stairs to have a nice view of the green surroundings.

Temple architecture

Each temple has its own character. Some are modest and contemplative, others overwhelm with gold leaf and painted ceilings. Red torii gates mark sacred thresholds.

The Nishiki Market is packed with little food shops. Its surrounding area is less crowded and you can find some nice coffee places and fancy shops there.
